Salesforce shops for acquisitions the way most of us shop for snacks at 11 p.m.: often, on impulse, and big. This week's pick is Braze, the customer engagement platform behind many of the push notifications on your phone right now.
$47.50 a Share and a 58% Premium
Salesforce has agreed to acquire Braze for an enterprise value of about $5.66 billion. Braze Class A shareholders get $47.50 per share in cash, roughly 58% above Monday's close of $30.04. Braze stock jumped more than 50% on the news, and Salesforce slipped about 1%. The deal is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal 2028, pending shareholder and regulatory approval.
Braze started out as Appboy in 2011 and went public in 2021. It helps brands reach customers across apps, email, websites, and SMS, reacting to customer activity in real time and using AI to personalize content, pick channels, and time messages. Its roughly 2,770 customers include Canva, Instacart, Venmo, and Urban Outfitters.
Data Plus Delivery Equals the Whole Funnel
Salesforce already knows a great deal about your customers. Braze is very good at reaching them at the moment they're most likely to respond. Put the two together and you get a stack that can spot what a customer did, predict what comes next, and send the message, all inside one vendor. It's also the latest in a run of buys that includes Informatica for data and Fin for AI customer service.
The open question is integration. That premium is steep, and analysts point out that Salesforce's past megadeals like Slack and Tableau haven't always delivered as promised. For customers, consolidation cuts both ways: fewer integrations to babysit, but more of your customer experience tied to one company's roadmap and pricing.
The marketing stack keeps consolidating, so make sure the data that matters is still yours.
If your website and CMS need to share customer data cleanly with whatever CRM or engagement platform comes next, we build integrations that don't lock you into one vendor.
